This one-year Diploma course follows on from the Foundation Course. It can be a further stand-alone course, or it can be considered as Year 1 of the 4-year Group Analytic Qualifying Course, should successful students wish to apply for further training with the IGA.
From September 2026 there will be two training routes offered:-
Thursday training route:- 35 Thursdays over three terms for
Teaching and seminars, 2:00pm to 5:15pm
Large group, Monday x3 meetings a term, 8:15pm – 9:45pm
Weekend training route:- 10 weekends over 10 months (no training weekend in December or August).
Weekend starts Friday afternoon until Saturday afternoon
Weekly online Work Reflection Group. Possibility of joining the weekend therapy group, Saturday afternoon until Sunday afternoon.
Students on both routes will be required to attend the National Learning Event in April 2027. This is weekend training event that all the diploma students at the various training centres attend.
The Diploma can lead towards the status of Groupwork Practitioner (GWP) if you undertake conducting an agreed group under extra supervision. However, if you wish, you can opt-out of the requirements for the GWP qualification and still be successful in achieving the Diploma. Associate Membership of the Institute of Group Analysis (IGA) is available for students who have also completed an IGA foundation course.
It is a course requirement that Diploma students either join a weekly therapy group (can be in person or online) or the course experiential group, which takes place at Daleham Gardens on a Thursday after the formal teaching component (there is an extra fee for the experiential group).
Please note that if you are intending to apply directly to the qualifying course post the diploma you need to be in a twice weekly therapy group, the Turvey block therapy group or the London weekend therapy group from the October preceding applying for the qualifying course in January.
