Friday 27th November 2026

10:30am - 3:30pm

In Person at the Institute of Group Analysis, 1 Daleham Gardens, London NW3 5BY

About the Day

Despite the known benefits, mental health services continue to under-value co-production and patient (lived experience) leadership. There’s great practice going on, yes, but as has been the case for decades, these are only happening in a few places and not at scale. This is at a time when mental health care and staffing is in crisis, and patient and public engagement mechanisms across the NHS have been decimated.

Have your say, explore innovative approaches and regain confidence to change things.

The day examines what’s working, what isn’t, and what helps or hinders everyday co-production. We’ll begin with an open discussion about your local experiences, then explore two approaches:

  • Reflective Practice: Cultural change through high-quality listening, influential questions and holding space for dialogue. Led by Vasili Magalios, Senior Group Psychotherapist at NHS offering reflective practice to teams and group analyst at the Institute of Group Analysis.

  • Patient (Lived Experience) Leadership: Drawing on the wisdom, passion and relational skills born from suffering, alongside the knowledge and drive to change things. Explore qualities to develop your individual and team practice. Led by David Gilbert, Director of InHealth Associates, patient leadership pioneer, author of The Patient Revolution.

  • We will also explore AI and mental health through the lens of co-production. This will draw upon David's experience as Board Member of Mind's Commission on Mental Health in the Age of AI.

Who is it for?

Patients, service users, carers and professionals interested in co-production and embedding it in practice or across systems.

While focused on mental health, the event is relevant across all sectors to anyone committed to an equal say for patients and the public or people with lived experience. This includes practice and policy leaders, statutory and voluntary providers and commissioners, and decision-makers across improvement, governance and executive and non-executive leadership.

Fees:

Health Professionals: £80

Voluntary Sector: £50

Patients, Service Users and Carers: £35

Maximum participants: 30

*We offer 5 free places for individuals with lived experience (not paid professionals), allocated on a first-come, first-served basis. Please contact Vasili Magalios, FCConvenor@groupanalysis-uk.co.uk, to enquire.
