The Course
This is a three-year Group Analytic Qualifying course follows on from the Foundation and Diploma Courses. The Qualifying Course leads to a Qualifying Course in Group Analysis Diploma, Full Membership of the IGA and professional registration with the UKCP.
From September 2026 the London Qualifying Course will have two training routes:-
A weekly Thursday training route made up of 36 Thursdays in-person and runs from 12:15pm to 5pm. If you require additional supervision for individual work your day will start at 10:30am. Mornings are spent in supervision and afternoons in seminars. Terms are twelve weeks in length and run from mid-September to late July. Biennial Psychopathology Weekend in the Spring Term 2026, 3 large groups per term on Monday evening 8:15pm - 9:45pm
A monthly weekend training option, made up of 10 in person weekends and 3 Saturday online training days. The weekend starts on Friday afternoon and ends on Sunday afternoon. Supervision of the training group is weekly online. The months that the course does not run are December and August.
The Qualifying Course seeks to develop your understanding of the psychoanalytic and social theories that underpin group analysis. This is accomplished through advanced theoretical learning, supervised clinical work and personal group analysis. The course is primarily taught by practicing group analysts who are Full Members of the IGA.
Being a twice weekly therapy group, block therapy or the London weekend therapy group (10 weekends per year the same as the training weekend) is a requirement on this course, and we strongly advise that you have already commenced in group therapy before you apply to the Qualifying Course.
