Introductory Weekend in Group Analysis

Convenors: Kim Spicer and Kate Taylor

Friday 13th - Sunday 15th March 2026

=============================================================

This intensive Introductory Weekend offers the opportunity for you to experience group analysis and the benefits that a training course at the IGA can offer to your professional role. You will gain valuable insights into the dynamics of social and professional groups and how you can enhance your effectiveness in any group.

During the weekend, you will learn the fundamentals of the group analytic perspective through participation in several experiential small and large groups and attending a theoretical lecture. You will have the opportunity to explore how you relate to others in a group situation and how others experience you.

The weekend will benefit anyone interested in learning about group dynamics on a professional and/or personal level. Past participants include psychotherapists and counsellors, mental health and social services professionals, managers, and members of teams of all kinds.

The experiential nature of the course means it is essential that participants attend for the whole weekend.

Why Group Analysis?

Group Analysis is a powerful therapeutic medium that focuses on the relationship between the individual and the group, emphasising the essential social nature of human experience. Group analysis brings into the foreground the emotional, behavioural and psychological phenomena which emerge in the context of all groups. Carefully constituted group analytic groups have a long record of helping people with personal difficulties arising from their ‘original group’, the family, and significant others, and in promoting personal development.

The Group Analytic approach has profound implications for group work and organisational practice in a wide range of health, social and educational settings. Our philosophy is that as personal difficulties arise in groups; groups are the best place to explore, understand and resolve them.
